Easy DIY Burlap Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer Christmas Wreath

Easy DIY Burlap Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer Christmas Wreath

Easy DIY Burlap Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer Christmas Wreath.  If you are looking for a super adorable, quick, easy, Christmas wreath idea that won’t break the bank; I have just the wreath for you!

Easy DIY Burlap Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer Christmas Wreath

I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for creative ways to celebrate Christmas without spending a fortune.  I also love creating crafts and recipes with my kiddos.  There’s something empowering about knowing that I can create anything I want and I can teach my kiddos to do the same.  You can get more creative when you’re creating something yourself.  Test out colors, fabrics, sparkles or no sparkles.  The sky really is the limit when it comes to DIY.  I hope y’all love this Easy DIY Burlap Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer Christmas wreath and have a great time creating it with your family.

Easy DIY Burlap Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer Christmas Wreath

Gather your supplies:

  • 1 – 14 inch wire wreath frame (I got mine from the Dollar Tree)
  • 5 – spools of 2 1/2 inch X 9 ft burlap ribbon
  • 1 – small plastic red Christmas ornament
  • 1 – set of antlers (I used the antlers found on antler headbands at the Dollar Tree)
  • 12 inches of beading wire or any other sturdy wire that is easy to work with
  • 1 hot glue gun with 2 glue sticks

Get to creating!

I have a video tutorial below that will be super helpful in creating this wreath.  I will walk you through the steps, but watching the video will help a lot!

  1. Lay out all of your supplies
  2. Start by folding the burlap ribbon in half lengthwise and in half again.
  3. Using a 3 inch piece of wire, secure the ribbon to the inside wire of the wreath.
  4. Pull a “bubble” of ribbon through between the first two wires of the wreath, then repeat for the second and third. You should have 3 even “bubbles” now.
  5. Scrunch the bubbles over to start the next row of bubbles.
  6. Flip the wreath over and twist the ribbon twice before repeating steps 3 & 4.
  7. Keep repeating steps 3 & 4 until the entire wreath is covered.  You will secure each end of the ribbon with a 3 inch piece of wire.
  8. Once the wreath is completely covered and “fluffed” I like to add some hot glue to the back to secure the ribbon even more.
  9. Hot glue the red ornament to the bottom of the wreath.
  10. Center the red ornament and glue the antlers about 9 inches apart at the top of the wreath.  I like to lay it all out before I glue it and mark my spots with a black sharpie.
  11. Allow the hot glue to dry and hang your wreath up for decoration or give as a gift!

How To Make A Super Creepy Halloween Wreath For Under $10

How To Make A Super Creepy Halloween Wreath For Under $10

How To Make A Super Creepy Halloween Wreath For Under $10.  I get asked, often, how to make wreaths.  I know, it seems odd, but I guess with how expensive wreaths are these days, it makes perfect sense!  I have good news;  I love making wreaths!  And I do them on a budget.

How To Make A Super Creepy Halloween Wreath For Under $10

This wreath is one of my favorites so far and it was so easy to make!  Everything, except for the spray paint, came from the Dollar Tree.  The spray paint came from Dollar General and was only $1.48.  So you, too, can make this wreath and you can do it on a budget.  All I needed was a wreath form; you can use the foam form or the metal form.  I prefer the metal form because they’re more sturdy and I can tie things to them, plus they are lightweight and always seem to be in stock.  Then I just used a skull from a pack of 6 that I bought for another project, a few snakes, a spider, Christmas garland, spray paint, and my handy dandy hot glue gun.

How To Make A Super Creepy Halloween Wreath For Under $10

You can really make any kind wreath you want with supplies from the various dollar stores.  It is not tough to find great ways to stay under $10 either.  Sometimes you can even find hot glue guns for $2, which is a steal!  Be sure to use caution when using a hot glue gun.  They burn easily.  Find a safe place to work and always unplug your hot glue gun when you are finished.  Also, a note about using spray paint.  I used it inside, but it was on a day when it was cool and I had the windows and door opened with two fans going.  So, be sure to work in a well-ventilated area when using spray paint.  It’s a great idea to do it outside and wear a mask.

Gather your supplies:

  • 1 wreath form
  • 1 pack of Christmas pine garland (about 8 feet)
  • 1 can of black spray paint
  • 3-4 plastic play snakes
  • 1 plastic spider
  • Artificial flowers (roses) with leaves
  • Hot glue gun

Get to creating:

  1. First wrap your wreath form with the garland.
  2. Next lay your wreath, snakes, and flowers with leaves out and spray them with the black spray paint and allow 1 day to dry.
  3. Using your hot glue gun, place the snakes and other decorations around the wreath in a circular form.  It really is super easy to do.  The decorations stick much better when they are glued to the garland and not directly to the metal of the wreath form.
  4. Have fun and make it your own!
  5. Is this wreath not big enough for you?  Try getting a hula hoop from the dollar store and wrapping it with a pool noodle.  This is super easy to do and makes a great wreath form!

How To Make Your Own DIY Halloween Eyeball Wreath

How To Make Your Own DIY Halloween Eyeball Wreath.  Are you looking for super cool ways to impress your family this Halloween?  Well, I have just the project.  It is so easy PLUS it costs around $10 to make!  It took me about 2 hours to complete and even the kiddos can pitch in!

How To Make Your Own DIY Halloween Eyeball Wreath

Let’s get started.  First, you will need to head over to your local Dollar Tree or Dollar store and get about 8 packs of 12 eyeballs.  They are about the size of a ping pong ball.  As a matter of fact, I have seen people draw eyeballs on ping pong balls and make this wreath!  Then you’ll head over to the floral aisle and grab a metal wreath form.  I used the metal form, but you can use the foam form too, just be sure to wrap it in some kind of cloth before you start using hot glue.  I also picked up a pack of plastic bugs to glue to the wreath just for effect.

How To Make Your Own DIY Halloween Eyeball Wreath

Have fun with it.  Grab your kiddos and get to gluing!  You can find all kinds of cool and gool-ish things to glue to your wreath.

Supplies needed:

  • 8 packs of 12 ping pong size plastic eyeballs
  • 1 metal wreath form
  • 3-4 plastic bugs
  • Hot glue gun and about 6 glue sticks

Directions:

All you’re going to do is glue the eyeballs in the middle circle of the wreath form.  Next add another row below that row, then another row on the inside of the form.  Be generous with your glue just to be sure it stays together.  You can even grab a string of battery operated lights to tie to the wreath.  Have fun and enjoy the holiday!

Four Great Tips That Will Save Your Jack O Lantern This Halloween

Four Great Tips That Will Save Your Jack O Lantern This Halloween.  Are you always looking for ways to make your Jack O Lantern carving easier at Halloween?  Do you want your Jack O Lantern to last a little longer?  Well, I have some great tips that will do just that!

Four Great Tips That Will Save Your Jack O Lantern This Halloween

Ice Cream Scoop For The Win

These are tips that will definitely change the way you view carving a pumpkin.  The first tip I have is to use an ice cream scoop to scoop out the inside of the pumpkin.  Ditch those carving kits and head over to your kitchen utensil drawer.  Ice cream scoops are much more sturdy and can scrape, even a thin layer of the inside of the pumpkin to make sure there are no strings behind.  This is life-changing, y’all!

Four Great Tips That Will Save Your Jack O Lantern This Halloween

Cookie Cutter Pumpkin

The next trick is to use metal cookie cutters to carve fun shapes into your pumpkin.  I saw this a few years ago on Pinterest and had to try it with my kiddos.  Sure enough, it works and it is a ton of fun!  We have a great collection of Halloween cookie cutters, now too.  The trick to this is to hold the cookie cutter tightly against the pumpkin while you gently hammer it into the skin.  It will take a little patience, but it will be well worth it.  After I get the cookie cutter hammered into place, I just push it through and, VOILA, there’s your shape.  I have yet to bust a pumpkin with my hammer.  Pumpkins are pretty sturdy, so give it a try and let me know what you think.

Four Great Tips That Will Save Your Jack O Lantern This Halloween

Dry Erase It All

Do you ever draw your design on your Jack O Lantern, then discover it is off-center or not quite what you wanted?  Try using a dry erase marker!  Just draw it on, like you normally would and, if you don’t like it, just wipe it off and start all over.  It is super easy peasy and the marker stays on great if you love your design and want to cut it out.

Four Great Tips That Will Save Your Jack O Lantern This Halloween

The Fungus Is Not Among Us

Here in south Louisiana, it is hard to keep a Jack O Lantern around for more than a few days.   With 98% humidity being the “norm”, fungus grows quickly and steals the beauty of our Jack O Lanterns.  If you want to keep the fungus growth at bay, simply submerge your Jack O Lantern in a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach per 1 gallon of water after carving.  Each morning, I also spray my Jack O Lantern with a bleach water solution that has the same concentration of bleach to water.  It works great and I can often keep my Jack O Lantern looking great for over a week.

How To Make A Glowing Jar Full Of Spider Eggs For Halloween.  This fun diy craft could not be any easier!  You may even wonder why I bothered writing down the instructions.  Well, the answer is simple, it’s fun and I wanted to share 🙂

How To Make A Glowing Jar Full Of Spider Eggs For Halloween

These have always been a fun favorite of my kiddos.  Of course, they love anything with glow sticks.  We always have Mason jars on hand, but you can use any type of jar you like.  Make sure you don’t pack the cotton balls too tight in the jar because that will make it difficult to get the glow sticks in and out of the jar.  Have fun with it.

How To Make A Glowing Jar Full Of Spider Eggs For Halloween

As you can see, we added skulls to one of the jars.  You can really add anything you like and put a couple of glow sticks inside.  The Dollar Tree is full of cool dollar decorations, so make it your own and have a happy Halloween!

How To Make A Glowing Jar Full Of Spider Eggs For Halloween

Our kids like to put these jars in their bedroom windows and add new glow sticks periodically.  On Halloween night, when all of the kids in the neighborhood are trick or treating, we line the driveway with lots of glowing decorations.  These are one of the faves!  You can make 10 of these jars for about $5.

How To Make Floating Ghosts For Halloween With Cheesecloth

How To Make Floating Ghosts For Halloween With Cheesecloth.  I love making my own decorations for every holiday.  There’s something special about being able to do it yourself, plus the kiddos love lending a hand.  These cheesecloth ghosts are something we have made a few times and I decided it was time I shared it with all of you!

How To Make Floating Ghosts For Halloween With Cheesecloth

Making floating ghosts with cheesecloth is not only super easy and fun, but it also teaches a mini science lesson about how starch works!  You don’t have to use starch, though.  I have used a mixture of 2 parts school glue to 1 part water in the past and it worked just as well.  We always have glue and starch on-hand as our youngest daughter is a slime fanatic!  You might be able to relate to that too.  You can make about 4 ghosts with one package of cheesecloth.  All in all after all of the supplies is bought, it costs about $6 to make 4 floating ghosts for Halloween using cheesecloth.

How To Make Floating Ghosts For Halloween With Cheesecloth

Gather your supplies:

  • 1 pkg of cheesecloth (you can get this at any craft store, Walmart, or Target)
  • Liquid starch, spray starch or school glue (I find liquid starch works the best)
  • Scissors
  • 1 medium mixing bowl
  • Plastic or paper to cover your working area (I use the plastic table covers from the Dollar Tree)
  • Anything you can find to mold your ghosts. (I use balloons and vases or glasses)
  • black felt (for the eyes)

How To Make Floating Ghosts For Halloween With Cheesecloth

Now comes the fun part; putting it all together!  You can use anything you have handy for a mold, but I find that using balloons for the head are easy peasy once the ghosts are finished.  I put a little bit of water in the balloons before I fill them with air.  This helps weight them down so they don’t fly away while you’re working.  Here are the steps in order, the way I follow them:

  1. Cover your work surface with paper or plastic.  I use plastic table covers from the Dollar Tree.
  2. Mix your stiffener of choice in a medium size mixing bowl or if you’re using starch, I use a spray bottle.  I also use the liquid starch full strength.
  3. Set up your molds the way you want your floating cheesecloth ghosts to stand.
  4. If you’re using the glue mixture, you will dip the cheesecloth in in the glue mixture (2 parts glue to 1 part water) and squeeze out any excess and drape over the mold.
  5. If you are using spray starch or liquid starch in a spray bottle, you will drape the cheesecloth over your molds, then spray them generously with starch.
  6. Allow them to dry for about 4 hours.  You can speed up the process with a fan on low setting.
  7. Spray another coating of starch and allow to dry again.  This should be stiff enough for the ghosts to stand alone.  If you feel you need more starch, then keep repeating the process of spraying the ghosts and allowing them to dry until you achieve desired stiffness.
  8. Pop the balloon and remove from the mold.
  9. Cut out eyes and mouth from the black felt and glue onto ghosts with school glue or hot glue.
  10. Voila!  You have adorable floating cheesecloth ghosts for Halloween that you created yourself!

Great Tasting Vanilla Extract In Your Instant Pot For A Fraction Of The Cost

Great Tasting Vanilla Extract In Your Instant Pot For A Fraction Of The Cost

Great Tasting Vanilla Extract In Your Instant Pot For A Fraction Of The Cost.  If you are like me, you know that the cost of vanilla extract is unreal!  I use vanilla extract several times a week in a variety of recipes, and at $2+ per ounce, that really increases the price of cooking at home.

**This method should NOT be used with a stove top pressure cooker.  Alcohol is highly flammable.

Great Tasting Vanilla Extract In Your Instant Pot For A Fraction Of The Cost

People have been making vanilla extract at home for—ever!  This is not a new recipe or method of making vanilla extract.  In fact, the method of making vanilla extract at home is actually on the package of vanilla beans that I use (you can find them over here at Amazon).  The Instant Pot I use can also be found here on Amazon.  The method that my grandmother used was the same as my method, only hers didn’t involve an instant pot AND her method took a month to make the extract.  Last year, a friend of mine said “Hey Rach, you know you can put that in your Instant Pot and it will be finished tomorrow?!”  Say what?!  Yep, there really isn’t much my Instant Pot cannot do.  I set out to see what kind of voodoo this Instant Pot vanilla extract was conjuring up.  Sure enough, that extract was perfect after just 30 minutes under pressure.

Great Tasting Vanilla Extract In Your Instant Pot For A Fraction Of The Cost

The method

So, with that being said, know this is not my recipe.  This is a recipe/method that has been passed down for decades; even centuries.  The only thing I am doing is showing you how to speed up the process.  Using your Instant Pot will speed up the process significantly.  You will go from spending a month shaking bottles to spending 30 minutes under pressure and you will be done!

**This method should NOT be used with a stove top pressure cooker.  Alcohol is highly flammable.

Great Tasting Vanilla Extract In Your Instant Pot For A Fraction Of The Cost

The Price

Now, for the price comparison.  I was able to fill 11~4 oz bottles with the vanilla extract using 10 vanilla beans and a 1.75 liter bottle of vodka.  The beans cost a little over $2 each and the vodka was on sale this week for $13.99.  That makes the cost of this vanilla extract a little more than 50¢ per ounce.  This vanilla extract also has a much better flavor than store bought extract.

Great Tasting Vanilla Extract In Your Instant Pot For A Fraction Of The Cost

Always Be Safe

  • Never make extract in a stovetop pressure cooker
  • Never leave your pressure cooker completely unattended while under pressure.
  • Always use natural release for Vanilla Extract.
  • The jars and alcohol are extremely hot.  Even after natural release, still use precautions when removing them from your Instant Pot.
  • Only use jars made for canning (heating) when doing this project.

Great Tasting Vanilla Extract In Your Instant Pot For A Fraction Of The Cost

This is a great method passed down over generations and perfected using the Instant Pot.

Author Rachel

Ingredients

  • 5 Grade B Vanilla Beans
  • 1.75 liters vodka (70-90 proof)

Instructions

  1. Fill 5 - 8 oz mason jars with vodka and leave about 2 inches at the top.

  2. Carefully slice 5 vanilla beans down the middle.

  3. Place 1 sliced vanilla bean in each of the jars of vodka.

  4. Place trivet in the bottom of your Instant Pot liner.  I couldn't find my trivet this day, so I just crumbled up aluminum foil to place the jars on.

  5. Add 1 cup of water to the bottom of your Instant Pot liner.

  6. Place the lids on the mason jars loosely.  I tighten them until I just feel a little resistance, then pull back just a bit.  You don't want the jars to seal while they are in your Instant Pot.

  7. Place the lid on your Instant Pot, close the valve, and set to manual high pressure for 30 minutes.

  8. Allow your Instant Pot to natural release for at least 30 minutes, then carefully remove the jars from the pot using tongs or heat resistant oven mitts or gloves.

  9. This is when I tighten the lids down and allow the lids to seal.  You can wait until they cool to tighten them down if you don't want them to seal.

  10. Use cheesecloth to strain the particles from the beans or you can just use it with the little pieces of bean in it (that's what I do).  I like the extra vanilla flavor 🙂
