Family-Friendly Fondue Night

I am so excited to share our favorite meatless meal with y’all in honor of Meatless March! Â We shopped at our local Save-A-Lot. Â I absolutely love our Save-A-Lot. Â Their produce is beautiful and their prices are the lowest around. Â I don’t always make it over to Save A Lot because of time, but when I do, I stock up for a while! Â Fondue night is always so much fun, but it can be hard to find a cheese fondue recipe that doesn’t include wine or beer. Â Well, rest assured, this recipe doesn’t include either of those. Â Instead, I substitute apple juice. Â You can also use grape juice or half and half. Â This recipe is so super creamy already, I choose juice instead of cream. Â My kids just LOVE this recipe because the cheese is super stringy and fun to eat!
I actually got to go shopping without any kids this time!  That, in itself, is a miracle.  I also took this opportunity to stock up on supplies for our local family shelter.  I had two carts full of groceries by time I left LOL  As you can see, the pineapples at our Opelousas Save A Lot were beautiful and only $1.99!  Prices at all stores may vary.  I’d like to tell you that the pineapples made it to fondue night, but they did not.  Once my son spotted them, I had to cut them up 😀
Now, onto my super easy peasy recipe that my kiddos love! Â We do cold cut dinners some nights with lunch meats, cheeses, pickles, and crackers. Â Finger foods are always fun for kids, so this fits in perfectly.
Gather your ingredients:
- 2 cups shredded colby/monterey jack cheese blend
- 1 cup apple juice (you can also use grape juice)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1-4 dashes Louisiana hot sauce, to taste
- black pepper to taste
Get to cooking!
- first bring your juice to a light boil and add Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and pepper.
- Mix thoroughly and turn down to low.
- Add cheese 1/4 cup at a time until all is added. Â Stir well between each 1/4 cup.
- Allow to heat on low-med/low for about 10 minutes. Â The fondue will be very stringy but smooth.
- ENJOY!
This recipe easily feeds our family of five. Â I steamed broccoli and cauliflower, and small yellow potatoes. Â I also cut zucchini and baguette. Â I placed cherry tomatoes in the center of the veggie/bread tray. Â It was a huge hit and perfect for our movie night!
As you can see above, we also had chocolate fondue. Â There was no special recipe for this, we simply melted fondue chocolate in a small crock pot on low and dipped bananas, strawberries, marshmallows and pretzels. Â As you can see, the kids loved it! Â Have a fun fondue night with your family in March. Â It’s a great way to get creative and work some fresh fruits and veggies into your children’s diets.
What great ideas! I love fondue, but have never thought about making it at home….I’m definitely going to do this! The broccoli looks SO good! Thanks!
