Sci-Port: Shreveport’s Best-Kept Secret

We had the amazing opportunity to visit Sci-Port during a recent visit to Shreveport, Louisiana recently.  We live in south Louisiana, about 3 hours south of Shreveport, and have been hearing wonderful things about this science museum.  We could not have known just how amazing it would be just from what we heard.  I had, in my mind, the picture of all of the science museums we have been to over the years.  Although we love science museums; many of them have the same exhibits.

As you can see above, we had fun even before we entered Sci-port 😀  It was a rainy day and everyone was ready to get out of the car and into some FUN!  Hannah has grown from a shy little girl who hates having her picture taken into the biggest HAM around LOL  She was having a blast posing outside of Sci-Port.  I have to admit, it was  a little fun for me too 😀

Once we were inside Sci-port; we were off!  First thing was first though, it was time to head over to the IMAX theater.  I just love IMAX theaters, but no one else in our house has ever been.  This was a completely new experience for them.  If you’ve never been to an IMAX theater, you really should make a point to try it one day.  We watched Air Racers, which was a super cool documentary about air racing and aviation.   This was a lot of fun for the kids too, as the planes were racing all around and on top of our heads!  You can see a teaser of the film below:

After we left the IMAX theater, we headed upstairs to Christus Schumpert BodyWorks Gallery.

About BodyWorks:

BodyWorks, a gallery of exhibits dedicated to the study of the human body, contains exhibits about sports, health, and the systems of the body. The gallery also boasts the Randolph Querbes Johnson Health Zone, where you might encounter a demonstrator dissecting a shark or using kitchen chemistry. Bodyworks exhibits are generously sponsored by Christus Schumpert and other philanthropists from Shreveport-Bossier’s medical community.

We all had a blast in BodyWorks!  It really was a lot of fun and educational.  With the huge range in ages in our family; having everyone enjoy any place is truly a treat for us.  Everything, so far, has been very interactive and engaging for us all!  After we left BodyWorks, we headed over to Smile Science!

About Smile Science:

Sponsored by Cosse & Silmon Orthodontics and Pediatric Dental Partners
Smile Science! includes a giant six foot mouth that teaches Sci-Port visitors about oral anatomy in an informal, fun way. Visitors can brush the teeth with an oversized toothbrush and remove and replace the teeth like a puzzle. When the teeth are repositioned into their proper place, a touch sensor enables videos to play that teach visitors about dental hygiene.

The exhibit also encompasses two interactive tabletop features that allow visitors to use a microscope to examine tooth decay and learn about orthodontics by examining how braces work. Visitors will also have the opportunity to engage in role play, as the dentist, orthodontist or the patient in the replicated office.

All in all, we had a blast!  Of all the science museums we have visited over the years; Sci-port was definitely the most fun and interactive.  There are tons more exhibits than what is pictured here.  I would have a mile long post if I covered everything LOL  Go take a look at their website HERE; it’s full of wonderful information.  If you’re ever in the Shreveport, Louisiana area, you should definitely make time to stop by.   Yep, that’s my head on a platter HAHA!  Another fun, interactive exhibit at Sci-port.

  1. Fantastic website you have made. The photo of your head on a platter looks so realistic as if you’ve actually lost it. Keep up the good work. 🙂
